Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, in the 4300 Block of 7th Street, Southeast.
At approximately 7:49 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. After finding no signs consistent with life, the victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Additionally, members located a second victim, an adult male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The decedent has been identified as 53 year-old John Gaines, of Southeast, DC.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
